Website buying guide · Voqal AI
Pay monthly or buy your website outright?
The useful comparison is the cost and responsibility over time. Decide who will look after the website, what you need to own and what happens when the agreement ends.
Choose the arrangement that fits how you work
A monthly service can suit a business that wants someone to handle hosting, maintenance and routine updates. An outright build can suit a business that wants ownership from handover and is ready to arrange its own ongoing support.
Neither arrangement is automatically cheaper. Compare the same page count, functionality and support before comparing prices. A one-page brochure and a booking website with several services are different projects.
What are you paying for each month?
Ask for a written list. Does the price include hosting, SSL, backups, security updates and content changes? How much editing time is included? What happens when a change needs a new page or feature?
At Voqal, rolling website plans are £49 a month for Basic, £69 for Plus and £99 for Signature. The build has no setup fee. Basic is a one-page site; Plus is normally about five pages. Hosting, SSL, security, backups and uptime monitoring are included. Monthly content-edit allowances are 15 minutes, 30 minutes and one hour respectively. Additional work needs an agreed scope.
AI chat is included in Plus and Signature. It is an optional £29 monthly addition to Basic. The pricing page explains the available commitment rates and current inclusions.
Compare the total cost, including what happens next
A simple Voqal example: twelve payments on rolling Basic total £588 (£49 × 12). A One Page ownership build costs £495. This is a comparison of our two offers, not a market average.
The monthly total includes the ongoing services listed above. The ownership build includes a 14 calendar day handover support period; continuing hosting and care must be arranged separately. Domain registration, renewals and any extra functionality should be checked in the quote. These totals alone do not establish which option is cheaper overall.
For your own comparison, add the build price, hosting, domain renewals, paid tools and expected editing or support costs over the same period. Include any exit or transfer costs and confirm the tax treatment shown on the quote.
Domain ownership and website ownership are different
Your domain is the address people use to find you. The website is the design, content and software served at that address. Keep the domain registered in your name and retain access to its account.
Voqal clients always own and keep their domain. A subscription website is licensed while the subscription remains active. Buying the website outright is a separate option: the Basic buyout is £495, and Plus or Signature buyout is £995. A buyout and a new one-off build are different purchases.
Before signing with any provider, ask what can be transferred: source files, images, content, hosting access, licences and connected services. Ownership does not mean every third-party service becomes free.
Check cancellation and support in writing
For a Voqal rolling website plan, notice must arrive at least 14 calendar days before the next billing date to stop the next payment. Later notice means the next payment remains due and service ends after that billing period. A minimum-term plan has its own agreed commitment.
For a one-off Voqal build, the 14 calendar day handover support period covers defects against the agreed scope and reasonable operating questions. It does not include new features or redesigns. No ongoing care plan starts automatically.
Five questions to ask before choosing
- Which pages and functions are included in this exact price?
- Who handles updates, backups and a broken form after launch?
- Who owns the domain, website files and supplied content?
- What do cancellation, buyout and handover involve?
- What will I need to provide before the site can go live?
If the last question is holding things up, our small-business website content checklist will help you prepare a useful brief.
